I can't believe it...

Posted by barbarafrisch - February 1st, 2020

My 17th birthday is coming up on the 8th of february. And I'm still not a woman yet!

(just fyi, I was assigned male at birth, but my dad's a fucking transphobic asshole, and he won't stop misgendering me)

that sounds difficult. just try to empathize with how confused he may be and try to ignore him while you sort your own life out and maybe explain if you can to him when the timing is right. be safe!

Sorry, but whenever I explain to him, he's just so condescending.

@Boss @barbarafrisch be safe and try to stay positive minded, it sounds tough

It IS tough, but dad doesn't see things that way. He sounds like one of those transphobic stereotypical Christian parents who send their children to conversion therapy. However, in actuality, he's a Jewish atheist. (I'm a Jewish agnostic, but I believe in the afterlife and heaven)

@Boss @barbarafrisch @barbarafrisch I hope it works out for you, maybe if you don't focus too much on your gender identity in conversation with him and just try to relate to him and build trust in your family that could help. Transitioning is also a big deal and I can see why he would be scared by you talking about something that can be really expensive, take a lot of time, be confusing to him and maybe affect your social possibilities along with being something that in some cases people rush and regret the way they went about doing it

Kind of impossible to not focus, as I was assigned male at birth and I'm not happy with my body. Like, at all.

@Boss @barbarafrisch @barbarafrisch well i just mean in the way you talk with your parents whereas in your own life and mind you can prepare for whatever you need, just sadly your parents dont seem to understand or have trouble knowing how to help

I know mom understands.
